the greenhouse welcomed us with a warm embrace

while lace umbrellas caught the sun’s raining rays,
the greenhouse welcomed us with a warm embrace

small purple plums
plaid-covered tables
the smell of violets
two brown crayons
waving from a train
yellow roses in a vase
braids of garlic
rocking chairs and
warm embraces

almost impossibly
you grew in a most inhospitable place
and we marveled at your tiny spine
and huge spirit

your beautiful shiny petals
beckoned me to take a closer look,
it was then that you whispered
and i could almost hear your soft sounds–
but someone bumped into my shoulder
and i missed your subtle sunday afternoon message
