Our separate lives coincided, and all my self-absorbed anxiety vanished in that one fugitive moment, when a bird in the sky on its way somewhere else sent a glance across the divide and stitched me back into a world where both of us have equal billing.

Nature does that to you π Wonderful photo Sylvia

This is a great read that one can pick up occasionally instead of getting through it all at once since it’s a series of short essays. The photo was taken in my back yard as the crows flew to their roost on the other side of town at dusk. π

This is the second of Helen Macdonald’s novels and they read like poetry at times. I much preferred her first book, H is for Hawk, but this one, Vesper Flights had its poetic beauty as well.

Coincidence! A friend gave me H is for hawk. I havenβt read it yet

Oh I do hope you enjoy it. It’s really a memoir but the details that she puts down and her language are extremely haunting (to me). I’ve read it twice and count it as a favorite.

Such mastery of words in Helen Macdonald’s passage here, Sylvia, and a tranquil photo of yours. Thank you.

Well, I much preferred her first book, H is for Hawk to this one that I’ve taken this small quote from, but I just think she’s such an excellent writer. I always highly recommend H is for Hawk.

I loved her first book, H is for Hawk and have recommended it many, many times. Although I recently had someone tell me, “Don’t be offended, but I really didn’t like that book.” And, of course, I’m not offended at all. It’s interesting to me what one person can deem as beautiful and meaningful and lovely and another person can see the exact same thing as tedious or uninteresting. We are all such complicated creatures!

It really all is subjective. Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen was recommended to me with the comment of future classic. Me? I didn’t adore it. Didn’t dislike it either π

Great photo, Sylvia between the bare trees, the hawk, and the color of the sky. It pulled me in. Thanks. βCurt
