Yes, it was really beautiful. I struggled to not touch it, since it appeared so soft, but of course I kept my hands to myself and let it be. I’m glad it paid a visit.
Apparently a sphinx moth. It was so beautiful, I admired it for a long while. I was hoping to see its wings outstretched, but it flew away in the night.
After discovering this moth on my little back porch, I looked it up and learned that they live from 10 to 30 days. It struck me, that in that time, it just…lives. It lives the life it knows to live, in the moment. And although I know the arguments about all the benefits of our human intellect, there are times that I honestly can’t see the advantage. We, with all our supposedly superior intellect struggle to live in the moment and make the most of our lives, not in 10 days but in 70, 80 years. I find that remarkable.
