    1. Yes. This is taken right were we live on the edge of the Allegheny River. This Killdeer was hopping along normally and when we approached, she pretended that she had an injured wing. This is a distraction technique in order to keep her nest safe. They are beautiful birds. Much to learn from them. Thank you Jodi.

  1. Such a pretty Killdeer. I rejoice in their “kill-dee” call and their broken-wing ruse. I chuckle at their rock nests, almost invisible for their camouflage. A Killdeer egg, unhatched, sits dry and empty, but beautifully speckled, in my windowsill.
