    1. It’s the only book (ever) in which I read the last page, and started from the beginning again. Of course I’ve re read many books, but never back to back like that. The wording is just so incredibly beautiful. I’m sure not for everyone, with the descriptions of the hawk’s prey, but I really loved it. So I am totally with you.

      1. My book group is reading it this month, so I get to read it again! 🙂 I even went and wrote a review on Amazon – something I’ve never done before. Such good writing!

    1. As Eliza said, it’s one of my all-time favorite books as well. I was really taken aback by the beautiful writing. And having spent a lot of time on a farm, I’m not particularly squeamish when it comes to things like birds of prey, in fact I love birds of prey. While harboring a little sadness for the prey, I understand and completely accept the chain of life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I’m reading it for the second time right now.

  1. Turtles sunning themselves. I love it when they line up on a log. When frightened they drop off into the water. Given a few quiet minutes, they return, however. A definition of indulgence. –Curt

      1. As little boys we would walk around through the murky shallows of the pond near our home until we felt one with our feet and catch it. We would take it out to the bank where it would hide its legs and head in the shell until it thought we were gone and them scramble (turtle style) for the pond. After a few minutes of amusing ourselves, the turtles would be set free to return to the safety of the water, mumbling, I am sure, some choice, unprintable words about little boys. 🙂 –Curt
