not for skiing
or for shoveling,
not for driving
or for boarding,
but for dreaming
and for steaming
river waters–
for crunching
beneath boots
and napping deeply
on sycamore roots–
for kissing long lashes
and drifting softly
as crystal ashes
Same here.

Yesterday was our first true snowfall of the winter and it was beautiful.

I really love this poem! You have a great talent. I haven’t seen snow since 2006, except in the mountains of Switzerland! Thanks for sharing.

They didn’t plow those “crystal ashes” on our rural road at all so far!

Great reasons to love snow! I know I sure don’t want to drive in it or shovel it either…and I am not coordinated enough for skiing, ha!

Upon reading your comment again, I saw it in another way (perhaps the way you intended) and seeing the snowflakes dancing and playing while the snow falls is so beautiful. I pictured myself falling, which is a common occurrence, and thought that was funny. Years ago when my son was little, he told his grandmother that the leaves were dancing on the streets. I never forgot the beauty of that thought. This reminded me again of that after my second read. Thank you for that reminder.

Well, by March or April these feelings will be fleeting. But for now, I’m enjoying the happiness snow brings.

Thank you Jodi. Snow for January and some of February and then an early spring… let’s hope!

This one I love how you set up the rythym at the start and then break away and everything flows quickly after that. It’s like the burst of a snow storm 🙂

It’s nice that you love the snow, it’s Nature’s white linen that covers her work. Thanks S.! 🙂
